Building SpendTracker: From Idea to Android App
The development journey behind SpendTracker, covering Android implementation, Firebase integration, practical features, and its release on Google Play.
With SpendTracker, I set out to bring personal expense tracking and useful account features into one Android application. The project gave me a practical opportunity to turn an idea into a working product.
I developed the application using Java and Android Studio. Firebase Authentication supports registration and login, Cloud Firestore stores application data, and Firebase Storage handles uploads such as profile photos.
Bringing these features together involved more than building individual screens. User interactions, account information, expense records, and settings needed to connect within the application. Working on these connections helped me strengthen my understanding of application structure and data handling.
I also added features that support different user preferences, including dark mode, currency selection, PIN lock, profile editing, and CSV export. Each feature introduced another part of the application to develop and connect with the overall experience.
Publishing SpendTracker on Google Play marked an important step in the project. It brought together the work of building the application, preparing it for release, and presenting it as a product.
SpendTracker represents an important part of my development journey: applying technical knowledge to a practical task and learning through the details of implementation.
